If someone had told me I’d be getting out of bed at 5:15 am to do a bootcamp workout (sometimes in the rain and often in the dark), I’d have called them a liar.  And if they had told me I would actually love the workout, I’d have called them a crazy liar.  Now I am eating my words.  I was active, dare I say even athletic, throughout high school and college.  But, as happens to many people, life took over.  As I juggled a busy career, marriage and motherhood, exercise was swiftly outranked by other responsibilities.  When Derek announced that he was starting a personalized fitness program in a group setting, I was excited… and terrified.  I really needed and wanted to resurrect a balanced exercise routine, enough so that I astonishingly agreed to participate in a workout that ends right about the time I am generally dragging myself out of bed.  But I was scared that Derek would be disappointed in me, or worse, he would inadvertently "kill me" with our first workout together in more than a year.  I was wrong.  Derek was kind and encouraging, and made sure that each exercise was challenging, but appropriate.  Much to my surprise, I didn’t just tolerate the workout - I really liked it, and started attending 2x per week!

 

                                                                            

 

 

About year ago, when my wife and I turned 50, we both agreed that we needed to get into better shape and lose some weight. I have been lifting weights on and off for over 25 years but have never had a personal trainer. Standing 5’8” and weighing 168lbs, I needed to lose at least 15 pounds.  Other than starving myself by skipping meals, I had no plan on how to achieve this goal. That’s when I met Derek Favreau (DNA Mobile Fitness).  Derek asked me my goals and we got to work immediately. Derek designed a different work out plan for me every week that focused on exercises that worked my core and other areas that I never realized were so important. Coaching and pushing me through these 1 hour sessions twice per week, produced immediate results. Within 4 months I lost 10 pounds and reduced my body fat by 5%. I felt better about myself and looked more fit than I have in my entire life.  It’s been a year now since I started working with Derek and I’ve lost 17 pounds and my body fat is down to 6%. Having a knowledgeable and experienced trainer like Derek has helped me realize my personal fitness goals much faster than I could have ever imagined. I began training with Derek over a year ago.  At  age 74, mostly sedentary and diabetic, I was hardly his typical client.  My initial goal was to improve my balance and my posture.  Quickly, I learned that a steady program of strength and stability exercises would improve not only these functions but also my overall confidence, physical energy and mindfulness.  The greatest surprise was a significant improvement of my blood glucose control.  After several weeks of training, I noticed that the day after a session my glucose levels improved dramatically.  These benefits continue steadily.

Derek's manner is both professional and engaging.  His skillful coaching combines expertise, intuition and encouragement.   My training sessions are well paced, challenging and achievable.  Working with Derek I have learned that lifting weights can be uplifting!
